Internet Marketing – How SMS Can Boost Sales

Internet marketing has evolved since the good old days of America Online (AOL). AOL used to send CD’s to their e-mail customers for free. Whilst much has changed, internet marketing still remains one of the most valuable means to advertise your business.

Internet marketers have to constantly find new ways to entice their customers, by making more effective funnels. Many marketers have started using SMS to assist with converting their customers.

Why does SMS work with internet marketing so well?

SMS is highly effective – Due to the reputation of SMS being “spammy”, many believe that SMS is ineffective. However, SMS marketing can be far more effective than most other marketing methods, IF you use a good approach.

SMS has a high open rate – SMS has a 99% open rate, making it the most read marketing medium, as apposed to e-mail which has an average open rate of between 15 to 20%.

High click-through and conversion rate – Data has shown that approximately 14% of recipients click on links in SMS messages, and almost 9% convert.

Building a relationship between internet and SMS marketing:

Getting users to opt-in – Never send an SMS to a recipient that has not given you permission to send to them. You will have a much better chance of converting a client that has opted into your marketing list.

Segment your recipients – It is important to get the right message to the right audience. Segmenting your recipients into groups allows you to send personalized and direct messages to them. When the recipient can familiarize him/herself with what you are sending them, you have won half the battle and caught their attention.

Make your SMS messages short and sweet. No one wants, or has time to read an essay of a sales pitch. Keep it short and to the point. You need to catch your audience’s attention within a few seconds in order to make a sale.
